Apple seems to be working on creating a helmet that integrates virtual reality with its augmented reality as it will focus on gaming, video watching, as well as virtual meetings.
The helmet is scheduled to be launched in 2021 or 2022, followed by a pair of augmented reality glasses in 2023. This information is according to Bloomberg, which confirms the details of a report previously published by The Information.
The Information website claims that product launch schedules were discussed during an internal presentation at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California in October.
Bloomberg reports that about 1,000 engineers work in the company's VR and augmented reality teams, led by Mike Rockwell, one of the company's most senior software executives.
It is said that the upcoming VR glasses supported by a 3D sensor system will appear for the first time in the new iPad Pro model to be launched in 2020 and next-generation devices for the most expensive iPhone by the end of next year.
The 3D sensor, described as a more advanced version of Face ID on existing Apple mobile devices, enables users to create 3D reconstructions of places, objects, and people.
Earlier this month it was claimed that Apple was working with Valve to develop AR glasses. According to Taiwan's DigiTimes, Apple began to move from augmented reality glasses to collaborative development with Valve during the summer.
Apple's Augmented Reality glasses will be launched in the second half of 2020 at the earliest, with Taiwan's ODMs Quanta Computer and Pegatron taking over the assembly.
What do you think of Apple's next project? Will it provide a boost and advanced technology in the field of virtual reality and augmented reality? How will this be reflected in the VR industry?
