Death Stranding is one of the most polarizing games. Many players from around the world have waited for them to see what Kojima has to offer. The game, some of them gave it high ratings and others were tougher, especially in the United States.
Speaking to the Italian magazine Tgcom24, Kojima expressed his belief that Death Stranding had some poor ratings in the United States because the game was too difficult for reviewers to understand and that Americans favored first-person shooter games.
Kojima adds:
I must say that Death Stranding has received high ratings and actions in Europe and Japan. However, in the USA, we faced stronger criticism. Perhaps it is a difficult game to understand the mindset of critics and the public, Americans have a great degree of admiration for first-person shooter games, and Death Stranding is not one of them.
Now, what do you think of Kojima's justification for his new game being criticized in the United States and receiving mixed ratings?
What rating do you think this game deserves? It is a game that introduces new ideas and styles of play, but do you like what the biggest segment of players like?
